BE ADVENTUROUS — PLANT A NEW APPLE VARIETY NEXT YEAR
By Sharon Cohoon, Sunset grownup garden writer
I idolized Jim's past place about Kevin and Marty Hauser's hunt for better apples for temperate climates, which advance to their backyard business, Kuffel Creek Apple Nursery. It is exciting to undergo I haw hit more choices in my temperate beach status than `Anna' — a sure but pretty dulled apple, I've ever thought. Below are the threesome from Kuffel Creek I encounter most provocative — that's `Enterprise' on the left; `Williams Pride' in the middle; and `Terry Winter' on the right.
Anyone proven some of these still in Sunset regularize 24?
Surfing garden blogs, I wager that some bag gardeners are exercising the boundaries re apple varieties. blackamoor at Tall Clover Farm on Vashon Island in Washington, for instance, is ontogeny `Espopus Spitzenberg', said to be saint Jefferson's selection apple, and `Belle de Boshoop', which, as he says, is nearly worth ontogeny for the study alone.
And, if I'm not mistaken, the apples his bulldogs Boz and Gracie are eyeing in the picture beneath are `Bradley's Seedling.' Read Tom's post to wager what he has to feature most how every these varieties and more are doing in his climate.
What most you? Have you proven some varieties that weren't questionable to impact in your status that evidenced to be winners anyway? Or hit you rediscovered a wonderful heirloom difference worth transfer back? Let us know.
